Health Advice - Foreign Travel Health
Trips to far away destinations are increasingly popular and the lower costs of transport make such trips feasible for many. There is also an increase in the variety of different adventure type trips. Although this is good news, the risk to your health is increased and this makes the appointment with the nurse more complex.
Countesthorpe Health Centre offers travel advice to all our registered patients travelling abroad. We are also a Yellow Fever Centre and can offer this vaccination to any patient, whether registered with us or with another practice. There is a charge for this vaccine, which can be confirmed at the time you book your appointment
Please do not leave it until the last minute to contact us as we do not offer emergency appointments for travel reasons. Travel vaccination schedules can be complicated, therefore you should allow at least 6 weeks prior to travel to schedule any necessary vaccinations.
Once you know your holiday dates, please follow these simple steps:
Telephone the surgery on 0116 277 6336 and tell the receptionist where you are going, when you are departing and how long for.
Make sure you give a daytime contact number.
The Practice Nurse will ring you back within a few days and offer you a suitable appointment, depending on how many vaccinations you may need.
Open and print off our Travel Risk Assessment Form (see below) and complete it with as much information as possible.
It would be helpful if you could drop the completed form into the surgery before your appointment but if not please bring it with you when you attend your appointment.
A general travel advice leaflet is available below for you to print off.
